Previously ‘Stage Studios’, home to a successful Exeter stage school that has relocated, the large building has had many uses over the years, including a church hall, warehouse and a storage shed. It has been revitalised into two six-bedroom apartments suitable for young professionals or students. This stunning refurbishment began in November 2017 and was completed in July 2018, ready for the September intake of students. Turner Locker have had a long history with this building. Some 20 years ago plus we went to look at it when it was known as the Burdett Warehouse and as operated as clothing warehouse a far cry from its beginnings as Sunday School next to the Baptist church dating from the 1820’s. By this point a mezzanine floor had been installed in the former main hall. Our buyer 20yrs ago was Stage by Stage a performing arts school who eventually outgrew the premises coming back to us 20 yrs. later to re-sell the property. Having sold it gain the premises have entered another phase now as high quality student accommodation.

Exeter Property Investment Opportunity

Max Sayers from LS Properties says that as soon as he saw the property he thought it was a ‘brilliant space’ with bags of potential. He adds that part of the plan was always to retain the original features of the historic building, and this is evident from the quirky feel of the rooms. As well as the bedrooms, each apartment has two bathrooms, a large communal lounge and good-sized kitchen. The two lounges are key features of the properties, each offering an impressive space for socialising and relaxing. The property has been refurbished to a high standard throughout, offering superior accommodation to young people studying or working in Exeter. Thanks to Sue Cade/Devondale

Kings Wharf

June 22nd, 2017

Acting for Yelverton Properties Turner Locker Barnfield acquired one of Exeter’s iconic office investment buildings, Kings Wharf. Sat on the banks of the River Exe Kings Wharf with its distinctive glazed atrium is a wonderful combination of period charm and modern offices with ground floor retail and café units. Totalling some 26,000 sq. ft. the two former woollen warehouses were converted in circa 1990 to their current use. The formerly found fame as the backdrop to the hit 70’s television series the Onedin Line ad latter housed a fine Maritime Museum and at one point a craft centre As Devon commercial property management specialists we have looked after Kings Wharf for a great many years, running the buildings service charge and day to day running and maintenance. Turner Locker Barnfield acted letting the space for the original developer before acting for Quintain PLC in acquiring the investment in the mid 90’s. We later sold the property for them to investors from Cheltenham whilst we retained the management. Some years later we sold the building again to a wealth management fund who in their turn retained us to manage and let any vacant office or retail space. When then fund was being closed we acted for the current owner. Producing an income of circa £250,000pa the building will continue to be managed by Turner Locker Barnfield Ltd and recent letting and rent reviews we have carried out are showing solid rental growth again in Exeter’s rising office market.
